Projects & Machines

An assortment of projects and machines can be found here. Their hardware can change on a day-to-day basis (except Ishmael) so it is not worth listing all of their specs here. However, if we do put togeather another production level box its specs will be listed and it will probably also get its own page.
Ishmael
Ishmael can be quite the project just by her being her jolly 'ol self. Whether it is blocking spam e-mail from being sent to root@geecs.org, keeping packages up-to-date, or some new and odd task that no one else can figure out, we still love her.

More information can be found at her page: ./Ishmael.html
Ishbkp
Backup box for Ishmael. Script runs via cron every night and backs the files up with rsync via SSH. Rotates by every seven days, so if you loose data contact root, or Shearer, ASAP. We should be able to recover your data.
Crackhouse
There were some varried attempts at turning Crackhouse into an IRC server. Mainly Jeremy's area. There have been some rumored reports of sucess and you might be able to connect to crackhouse2.nmh.nmhschool.org if you are on the network.
Ignis Explicitrix
Tim and Sam were working on a Linux cluster out of old crap nodes. Due to the equipment not being good enough (one machine would not boot from disket or CD, another had a boot virus, and general FUBAR-ness) this project had to, "unfortunatley", be discontinued.
Hard Drive Lockpicking Gun
Performed by the 2004-2005 Spring minor class. Information available HERE.
WinTV
The only Windows box in the room, we only use it for checking SWIS, downloading and printing manuals, and de-fry our brains with Sega Genises (thank you Tim). It also serves as an anchorage for those students walking in the hall looking for a computer to print out their Chem paper on, as they have never heard of GEECS and think the penguin on the door is a joke at water fowl. Who's joking?
